With a super keen fisherman for a Dad it was no surprise that Dave had a fishing rod in his hand at a very early age. His Dad Ron taught him to fish for whiting, bream and flathead in the estuary and tailor and dart in the surf. Because Ron got seasick it wasn’t until his early teens before Dave got a real taste of bluewater fishing.
When Dave saw his first marlin as a 13yo fishing with Ken Brown off Cape Moreton he had no idea the impact that would have on his life. For many years that followed Dave became obsessed with marlin fishing and it basically took over his life. Firstly as crew then skippering several gameboats for private owners. He also became the editor of BlueWater Boats and Sportsfishing Magagine which allowed him to travel the world with a camera around his neck in search of marlin. In later years the marlin bug waned and an interest in four-wheel-driving and photography saw him working on the television program All 4 Adventure.
Now days Caloundra Fishing World is all encompassing but Dave still finds time to sneak of for a barra, snapper or mackerel fish.
